Peter The Fragile Rock
A series of classes given during Lent of 2024 on the life and the inspiration of the Apostle Peter. A lesson on the role of Peter and Paul in the growth of the early church.
WEEK 1
During the season of Lent we are exploring the life of the Apostle Peter. In the first week of our adult study, “Peter the Fragile Rock,” Pastor Stacy casts out in the deep water of the gospel accounts of Jesus’ call to Simon Peter. The class explores how Jesus calls us to obey, trust and follow Christ’s call.
WEEK 2
Listen to the seven miracles Jesus performed for the Apostle Peter and learn of their meaning for the church then and now.
WEEK 3
Jesus told Peter and the disciples, “upon this rock I will build my church.” (Mat 16:18) This week Pastor Kevin takes us on a tour of ancient city of Caesarea Philippi, with the Temple of the Dancing Goats, the grotto of Pan, and the gates of Hades. Join us as we explore what Jesus may have meant by these words, and how Christian churches have interpreted them differently.”
WEEK 4
WEEK 5
In the fifth week of our Lenten adult Sunday school class, Peter the Fragile Rock, Pastor Kevin examines the role of the Apostle Peter in the Passion and Resurrection narratives. The class examines how Peter’s portrayal evolves though the gospel’s depictions of Jesus death, and discusses how narrative variances may reflect different perspectives on Peter’s primacy among the disciples.
WEEK 6
As we wrap up our series on the Apostle Peter - the "fragile rock" of the church, we ask: What Peter’s journey can teach us about our discipleship? What does is character tell us about leadership? How does is faith journey inspire our own? And, what might the church learn from the lessons of Peter’s life.
