WHPC hosts a joyful, volunteer-run program for people who are experiencing memory loss (dementia), while their caregiver gets a break. The Gathering meets on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 1:30 where we engage in activities such as music, exercise, games, crafts, conversation and lunch. For additional information and to get started, please email thegathering@whpc.org and either LuCinda Chiles, The Gathering Director, or Diana Stoller, Parish Nurse, will contact you. If you are interested in volunteering, there is a place for you either as a support person (cook, photographer, etc.) or working directly with the participants! We’d love for you to visit us and give it a try!
The Caregivers' Support Group
For individuals who are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, this support group meets monthly for education and peer support. This group meets in-person and virtually. Contact Kris Phelps for more information.
The Memory Connections Program
This evidence-informed program is for people experiencing early memory loss. The person-centered program focuses on the strengths of participants at their ability levels. Participants enjoy various cognitive and physical activities to exercise their brains as well as a professionally facilitated support group. Most importantly, the program provides a safe place where older adults experiencing early memory loss can share their challenges and emotions with others in similar situations. It is a safe place to share a laugh, enjoy the company of others, and stimulate the brain. If you are interested in joining, please call AGE of Central Texas at 512-451-4611, ext. 236 to schedule an admissions interview. Due to COVID-19, groups are not meeting in person at WHPC, but support and resources are still available here.
