Building Hope: WHPC’s Commitment to Ending Homelessness
We believe that faith calls us to action at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church. Throughout Scripture, God commands us to care for the vulnerable, provide shelter for the homeless, and extend love to those in need. This mission drives our deep commitment to supporting families experiencing homelessness in Austin. One of the most powerful ways we are living out this call is through our partnership with the Foundation for the Homeless (FFH) and Peace Lutheran Church’s Peace Family Housing Project, a collaborative effort to provide transitional housing for families in crisis.
A Vision for Stability and Renewal
The Peace Family Housing Project, led by our friends at Peace Lutheran Church, is designed to offer temporary housing to families as they transition from homelessness to permanent stability. With support from FFH, this initiative will provide shelter, essential services, and case management for up to 36 families each year. Located on Peace Lutheran’s property in North Austin, the facility will feature four private units with two bedrooms, a shared kitchen, a playroom, and other communal spaces that foster healing and stability.
WHPC is honored to be part of this transformative effort. As a congregation, we recognize that homelessness is not just about lacking a home—it’s about lacking opportunities, resources, and support. Through financial contributions, volunteer efforts, and prayer, we stand alongside these families on their journey toward a brighter future.
On March 9, 2025, Monte Osborn, the Executive Director for FFH, joined us in worship and shared the importance and impact of WHPC’s partnership with them and in this housing project with Peace Lutheran Church.
How WHPC is Making an Impact
Our church is actively engaged in several ways:
Financial Support: WHPC has committed funding through the 2024 Christmas Eve Offering to help bring this project to life, ensuring that families receive safe, dignified housing.
Hands-On Service: Our members can serve by preparing spaces for incoming families, providing mentorship, or supporting ongoing needs at the facility. Another tangible way to help is to volunteer to serve their weekly breakfast. Click here for more details.
Spreading Awareness: By sharing the story of this project with our congregation and beyond, we hope to inspire others to join in this vital work.
